SUCCESS STORY OF A RETURNING OFW
Returning OFW certificated, turned Entrepreneur.. OIC-PD Ma. Belen F. Pantaleon hand-over the National Certificate in Cookery NC II to Mr. Abdaniel Isturis, Jr. , a returning OFW and owner/manager of newly opened restaurant “Kamayan sa Palaisdaan Seafoods and Grill” in his hometown, Caminawit, San Jose, Occ. Mindoro.

November 23, 2016 turned out to be not just an ordinary day for TESDA PO Occidental Mindoro. We expect a lot of applicants, the bulk of which will come from walk-ins for TVET scholarships specifically Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP) as a result of strong advocacy of TESDA and posting of Scholarship Tendering in TESDA websites.
Seldom do we find applicants for National Certificate, a returning OFW of stature, applying for a National Certificate as he is set to fulfill his dream of becoming an entrepreneur and managing his own restaurant one day. It was a pleasure meeting Mr. Abdaniel M. Isturis, Jr., 43 years old, a BS Marine Engineering graduate of Philippine Maritime Institute-Manila in 1997. He also took Culinary Arts and able to work as Chief Cook in various overseas maritime vessels, the last one was ARL Maritime Services which he said, the TESDA National Certificate in Commercial Cooking NC II had helped him land a high-paying job. Likewise, he also worked for eight (8) years as Chief Cook in various food chains owned by movie personalities, the likes of Ms. Sharon Cuneta, and Ms. Sarah Geronimo.
Upon returning home from overseas employment, he underwent competency assessment in Cookery NC II at Caregiver International Network, Inc. , San Jose, Occidental Mindoro last September 25, 2016, the certificate of which he intends to display with pride in his newly-opened restaurant “Kamayan sa Palaisdaan Seafoods and Grill” located in Barangay Caminawit, San Jose, Occidental Mindoro. The grand opening of said restaurant is set on December 8, 2016. He will also be hiring four (4) waiters, NC holders in Food and Beverage Services NC II. Indeed, TESDA fulfills its mandate of transforming lives through technical education and training. “Pass on the skills, pass on the blessings” as the saying goes.
